You call, email, hit me on FB, IG, wherever, and set up an appointment. That's really it. We can meet up for half an hour or so over coffee, and go over what you might want, or you can just book some time if you already know.
Pricing is variable, depending on what we're shooting, but is basically this:
See below for Senior Portrait session info pricing chart.
Family Portraits, headshots, and informal shoots are booked by the hour, and images are paid for individually.
Reservation rates are $150 per hour-on-site, whether on location or in studio, payable at booking.*
Travel calculated after 25 miles from city center, Portland. (Within reason.)
Individual Finished Images (up to 4) are priced at
$25 per WM**, $40 per NWM**, and $50 per image for Full Rights***.
After 4, everything above is 2-for-1, no limit. Purchase 5, get 10. Purchase 10, get 20.
Prints are sold individually, and priced on size and material
Events are booked hourly, and finished images are included in that price, but rates are negotiable,
depending on the event, location, rough number of images desired, and rights to those photos.
Call, email, or message me directly for event pricing.
Booking a reservation for a shoot means I can't schedule someone else that time. When you book, you can generally book up to 1 year in advance, with exceptions for big events.
Payment for the reservation is due at booking, or 4 weeks before the shoot date, whichever is later. If you haven't paid by the 4-week-prior mark, I won't cancel your booking, but I will open up that calendar slot. If someone else books and pays, I will cancel your shoot.
If you prepay before 4 weeks, you can cancel for a full refund.
After 4 weeks, you can get a pro-rated refund.
Cancelling less than one week before your shoot, or are a no-show, the booking is nonrefundable.
After your shoot, I'll provide you with finished images and/or prints. Images can be purchased
You have permission to print any purchased images. You cannot purchase a watermarked image and crop or edit it to remove the watermark- that would be a violation of copyright, and legal action could be pursued in the event that an edited photo was shared.
If you purchase the non-watermarked image, obviously you can share/crop to your heart's content, but you can't edit/modify/change or use the images for commercial purposes. (That means
1.) You can't edit the photo outside of cropping. Adding a snapchat filter, altering the image in photoshop, or changing a photo to black and white all are edits. 2.) You can't sell the photos to distributor, or upload them to a stock photo site. I won't prevent you from using them on your facebook page, or your personal business page, or similar, but you can't use it in a brochure or mailer. If you need to do that, purchase the full rights.)
In either case, you understand that Blue Prince Photography maintains ownership rights of those photos, and can use them for promotional purposes, and for commercial photos.
If you purchase Full Rights images or prints, I will waive the rights to those photos, and you can use them however you see fit. You can use them in advertising or commercial purposes, and I won't use them for promotional uses, either.
That's really up to you. My base location is simply draw a 25-mile circle from Pioneer Square in Portland. If you're outside that, we'll want to negotiate travel rates. If you're going someplace 26.2 miles away, no worries, but going to Mount Hood? Canon Beach? Silver Falls? I'll need to add mileage, but yeah, I'm down for that. Some of my favorite locations are decidedly off-road.
Examples of hike-in locations I've shot?
If you cancel your booking, you can get a refund or prorated refund. e.g., If your shoot is scheduled for a Saturday, you have to cancel before End of Day the previous Saturday for a 25% refund on the booking. 2 Saturday's notice gets you 50%, 3 gets 75%, and any anything over 4 weeks gets you a full refund.
If you pay with a check or credit card, refunds cannot be issued until 10 days after receiving payment. That means if you book on the 1st of the month, for the 1st of the following month, and decide to cancel on the 2nd... you will get a full refund, but it won't be dispersed until the 12th. This is necessary to prevent check fraud. My bank may hold the funds that long, and I can give you a refund until that happens. (In the event I haven't deposited the check, I can just return the check.)
If you pay with cash, you can get your refund immediately, but it may be in the form of a check or online transaction. Online transactions may be subject to a non-refundable 4% surcharge.
If you are unsatisfied with your shoot, and simply hate all the photos, you're under no obligation to buy. If you want to try another shoot, I will work with you to find a solution that works for both of us. I'm staking my reputation to be able to deliver exceptional photos. Trust me, I don't want you to be unhappy any more than you want to be unhappy. As long as you're not trying to take advantage of me or the situation, I'm going to be inclined to do whatever it takes to make you thrilled with your shots.
I assure you there are people asking both questions, and there are people thinking, "why I would say that?". To some people $400 is a ridiculous amount for photographs- after all, you can get a whole set from some Arkanasas-based-retailer's in-store Portrait Studio, or J.C. Cent's for only $99.95, and pictures are pictures! Others wouldn't be caught dead spending less than $5,000, because clearly anyone who charges so little is no Annie Leibovitz or Steve McCurry.
If you think either of those thoughts, good luck to you. The $99 special will never hold a candle to my shots, and you'll likely spend way more than that anyway. I'm also pretty sure Annie and Steve aren't going to shoot your family, and if they did, it would cost more than $5k. Just sayin'.
I am an artistic photographer. You will get images you'll be proud of, even if you always hate pictures of yourself.
I accept cash, check, electronic payments, and credit cards. Credit cards must be present at time of ordering prints or at booking appointments.
That depends on several factors. I guarantee a max of 2 weeks for proofs, and 4 weeks from proof viewing for finished images, but typically it's measured in hours or days. In particularly busy times, 2-4 weeks may be more normal. This is subject to change for holidays and unforeseen events.
Well, you're right. It's the PDX. Or on location in the PNW. Weather is always a threat. But, we're natives here, we just roll with it. If you schedule a shoot, and it's a washout, you have the option to reschedule or do the shoot anyway. If we're staying local, there are plenty of location options that work, even in the rain. Some, especially in the rain. If you hate the rain day shots, I'll reschedule you for another day, too, no extra charge.
